The Project

NASA’s Ground Systems Development and Operations (GSDO) Mobile Launcher (ML) Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Installation Contract serves as the second phase of the major modifications to the ML to support the SLS Vehicle. Phase II consists of installing and integrating ground support equipment onto the existing Mobile Launcher and modifying the structure as needed for installation. There are more than 40 ground support and facility systems to be installed on the ML, comprising of approximately 800 items including 1,200 tons of steel; 464,803 feet (88 miles) of cable; 140,000 feet of tubing and several miles of cryogenic, hydraulic and piping.

What JP Donovan Provided

JPD provided in-house design, fabrication, and assembly of many elements of the project. Multiple approved plans for the ML project serve as a solid foundation for the requirements of this ULA project, including: Lifting & Erection, Waste Management, Environmental Protection, Storm Water Pollution Prevention, Demolition, Confined Space, Traffic Control and Respiratory Protection.

The project scope includes installation, modification and testing for the following systems:

Cryogenic Subsystem, fabrication of frames and structural supports
Ground Support Equipment, fabrication of frames and structural supports
Environmental Control Systems (ECS)
Fluid and Electrical systems (including 19 subsystems), fabrication of frames and structural supports
Hydraulic and Pneumatic Subsystem, fabrication of frames and structural supports
Ground Cooling Subsystem, Hypergolic Subsystem and Hydrogen Access Arm Support Pressure (HAASP) Subsystem

ESP – Tail Service Mast Umbilical (TSMU) Access Stands
